Faith or Folly

The Occult Masquerading As Faith ?

In The Churches

(M. Weiland, aka Noteye)

As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he? Pardon a little sarcasm but even though I might firmly believe and be fully convinced in my own mind and heart that I am or can be, just like Abraham Lincoln, it would not make it so. It is only by the grace of God that any man achieves anything worthwhile, it is by grace, not by the power of our own minds! Likewise, no matter how much I would like to believe that I can be like God, no matter how religiously (or strongly) I maintain that I am just like Jesus, that is called deception not faith!

Although many ministers use scripture to support the notion that "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he" it is not really scriptural to do so. Our corporate failure to rightly divide the word of truth has allowed many unscriptural principals to be embraced by the people of God, as a result (in many ways) we have turned our churches into “high places” of false worship. Although most Christians are aware that the Bible warns of a "great falling away' (apostasy) in the last days, few seem to realize that day is already upon us. Sadly, the road to that state of apostasy has been paved with many half-truths. Be not deceived, truths, even one that seems to be very scriptural, if it is only half-true it is still a fallacy, it is still false.

The accurate rendering of the text of scripture does not say nor does the Bible itself teach, that "as a man thinks, so is he ". The scripture does NOT teach that whatever you think you are is what you are! The basic premise that, “whatever you think is what you are" or is what "you can be" --is metaphysics, it is mind science. What good is achieved your life, in that sense, "what you are" is by the grace of Almighty God, not by the power of your mind.

Metaphysical Mind Science is false doctrine, which promotes the development of the human potential through the power of the mind, a philosophy akin to that of Secular Humanism. It is a worldview concept that through the power the mind a person can develop his human potential and be whatever he or she wants to be, or that “you can have, whatever you can believe for ". If you can dream it, or imagine it, and/or if you can visualize what you want, it will be yours! What you want to be, or what you think you are, you will become! These are all different variations of the same basic [mind science] theme.

The evil behind these metaphysical, mind science concepts is that metaphysics promotes the power of the mind as the real agent of change rather than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. And that is all the more true, when these metaphysical, mind science concepts are taught as [seemingly scriptural] doctrines in the churches.

In the false teachings of Mind Science, in Scientology, in the Science of the Mind, even in Christian Science, the mind is considered either the active or reactive power. In metaphysics, the Mind is equivalent to the Principal behind all metaphysics, even when it is Religious Science, the Principal is the Mind, and the Mind is God. Although not formally worshipped as a Supreme or Universal power, the Mind is often seen as God, or just as easily the mind of man can become it's own GOD, its own Highest Authority. Some groups refer to the power of the Mind as the power of the Universe, or as Universal Mind; some even refer to that power as the Great Architect of the Universe.

In many New Age groups that force or power [which man can supposedly assess & use] is equated with a more impersonal Cosmic Mind, or as in Hinduism, as well as many Eastern religions, it is thought of as or referred to as a Universal Life Force in one form or another. This is the same universal "force" [that is supposedly "tapped into" and used either for good or for evil] that has been featured in the Star Wars series. The Star Wars series itself, in essence teaches Hinduism, i.e., the belief that "all is one" and that the force is [supposedly] in or accessible to every man. Every man [supposedly] has the same "divine" or universal force within himself which ["force"] can be tapped, summoned, channeled &/or used [by man] either for good or for evil. To my dismay, I have even heard Christians hailing, "The Force" and equating that force with our God! [May the "Force, be with you!" That is not the "mindset" nor the intent of the Apostles when they said, Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. In the book of Daniel, we are warned against worshipping another [false] God, the God of forces. (Dan.11:37) We do not worship the god of forces.]

It is written, 1 John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." [God, the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. He is the One true and living God.] There is no other [true] GOD. Jesus Christ is the word of God, He is the wisdom of God, He is the power of God, and He is GOD, the Son. He is the fulness of the God-head bodily and He Himself is the Life.

The "Force" [New Age or otherwise] is not GOD; neither is it of God. Many share a belief system that features one kind of a universal life force or another, but by whatever name, each deviate group recognizes a similar Source, Force or Higher power which man is [supposedly] able to summon, tap into, channel or use. By channeling this life force man can [supposedly] be enabled to achieve his goals. The details of the quests may vary from group to group but inevitably these man-made quests consist of attaining some ultimate state of bliss, oneness [or oneness with the universe] and/or some form of Self perpetuation at some kind of higher level. That higher plane or level of attainment often consists of some sort of god-like Self Realization or the deification of Self as God, attaining a God-like state, or man as GOD or a god.

No matter how you cut it, Jesus Christ is not some energizer bunny sent to empower you [in your mind] so that you can achieve your quest to reach your fullest divine potential! We do not channel Jesus Christ or His Spirit and Jesus Christ is not some power-source that was sent to "power you". Likewise, Jesus Christ is not some cosmic way-shower sent to "show you how to access power" [not even for you to learn to use His power, like a force]. Jesus Christ was not sent so that you could achieve your quest for Godhood or [as in the heretical Manifest Sons of God Movement] for you to realize your God-like potential or fulfill your destiny as a fully "Christed" son of God!

Not only did Jesus Christ NOT come to "power you" so you could achieve your fullest divine potential, He does not "power you" to achieve any God-like or Christ-like potential either. Those are the quests or goals of the Human Potential Movements associated with both the Secular and the Christian forms of Humanism. The Lord does not even "power you" to live His Life [to live the new Life] for Him! The [new] LIFE is in Jesus Christ and that Life is "in Him and of Him and by Him" who is Himself, the Life! Instead of "powering" you to live a new life, Jesus who is our Life, came (and died) so that God slay you [man] in Himself [in and through Christ] by His cross not only for the "forgiveness of sin" but also so that [for those who have received Him] God could also reckon you [and I] as dead [dead to sin but alive to Christ]. Through His death and resurrection [by His cross] He earned the right, so to speak, to [leagally] hide your life (you) in Him who is the Life by His Power, so that by the Power of His Spirit you (your life) could and would be hid with Christ in God. [cf. Col.3:3] So that, "When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. [Col. 3:4]

Another fallacy about the power of God that needs to be corrected is the idea that the Holy Spirit or His power is a force. The Spirit of God (and His power) is not an energizing force, the Power of God is not even ‘a what’ –the Power of God is a Who– Jesus Christ is the word of God, HE is the wisdom of God and HE is the Power of God.[1Cor. 1:24]

When you start talking about the “empowerment of man” or man's own personal empowerment, it is wrong. It makes NO difference if you like to think "it's the Lord" and it makes NO difference if you claim it's “all about Jesus”, --you can even misquote and/or misapply volumes of scriptures from the word of God, but if you are the "operative person" -if YOU are using His “power” instead of [you] being hidden in Him & by Him who is the Power, then you’ve got it all wrong!

By what Name, by what power, AND by whose holiness does God work? Jesus Christ is our Holiness unto the Lord. God works by His own Power through Jesus Christ by His Spirit. That is what invoking the Name of Jesus is all about, it is calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Calling upon the Name of the Lord means you are calling on Him who is God; it is God who "works the works" by His Spirit through Jesus Christ. {In Him, of Him, by Him). We are the vessel: like a container can do nothing in and of itself, it is not about us, or of us, nor by our holiness; it is about the Lord and Who HE IS. The works of God and working of His Power through Christ isn't by our power, it is not even by OUR USE of His power, nor it is because of our goodness, merit, virtue or by our holiness.

Acts 3:9 "And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. 12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?"

It is very important that we establish it firmly in our hearts that it is not by our faith, our power, our virtue, our goodness or our holiness that God works. It is important to understand also that we do not work miracles and we do not use the power of God.

God works miracles in the Name of Jesus as a testimony to the faith of Christ [which is by Him] by which God glorifies His Son Jesus. The fact that the works of God are not by our holiness, not by our power nor by our faith [but are instead by the power of God and the faith of Christ] is clear even in the account of the first public miracle performed in the Name of Jesus Christ [after His Ascension].

The account of what transpired [in the working of a miracle in the Name of Jesus] the record of the healing of a lame man is found in Acts 3:6 "Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God."

Peter was not about to let anyone say that man was in any way responsible for the works of God! When the people began to look on Peter and his companion (John) as though it was by their power or their ability that the lame man was healed, consider carefully what Peter said:And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go." [Acts 3:12-13] Now look at Peter's statement in Acts 3:16 "And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all."

The faith that the lame man had in the Lord came as the result of the work of God, and that work was worked by faith that is by God through Christ as the gift of His grace. When the scripture says "through faith in His Name" it does not refer to man's own ability to believe, nor does it refer to man's ability to visualize, nor to man's ability to cause something to manifest by the faith of man. Otherwise we [of the household of faith in Christ] could theoretically stand before God and boast of what WE did by our great faith! But NO flesh will glory is His Presence. "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. [1Cor.1:27-29]

True faith towards God in Christ, faith even which is in His Name is also faith which is by Him. There is NO THING in which we can boast! Faith in God comes from God through Jesus Christ. Faith in God is worked by Jesus Christ. [Jesus Christ works faith in God.] Our faith is by the faith of Christ which is of God, by Him. The faith we have, is faith which is in Him and also by Him. Therefore, in the example mentioned earlier (above) of the lame man, the faith Peter had in Christ and the faith the lame man had in the Name of Jesus was faith that is also by Jesus Christ, i.e., by God through Christ. It is faith which comes from God by Jesus Christ, even faith that is worked through or by faith in His Name. The good works or miracles are worked by the faith of Jesus Christ as God works through Christ in us by His grace.

The faith of all the Apostles, even the faith of Paul came only by God, it is faith that is by Jesus Christ by His grace. "And of His fulness have we all received, and grace for grace. Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. And no man has seen God at any time; the only Begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." [John 1:16-18] Just as our faith is by Him by His grace, so too even our righteousness is by faith of Jesus Christ by the grace of God. [Rom. 3:22; Rom. 12:3; ] "For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith [Gal.5:5] By the faith of Jesus Christ, we are also justified, by His works not our own. [Gal. 2:16; Gal.3:21-22]

By Him we are justified by His works, by His righteousness, by His virtue, on the basis of His merit, by the faith of Him, i.e., by grace through faith which is in Him, of Him and by Him. [Eph.2:8] Through Christ, God works the things of God pertaining to our salvation and to His works, which are all worked by God through Jesus Christ. Look into His word and see how it is that everything God has for us, all that He has purposed for us is always prefaced by and/or followed by such terms such as, “in the Lord” or "in Christ" or "by Him" or "in Him" or "or through Him, i.e., through Christ". Why? That we might know that it is all of Him and none of us! It is not of us, instead it is "by Him who is rich in mercy, by the exceeding riches of His grace, in His kindness towards us". [Book of Ephesians, chapter 2] It is the mystery of Christ in us, the hope of glory. By Him are we are given "grace for grace" that through Him we might have faith in His Name, i.e., in Him.

In Christ, we have boldness and access [to God through Christ] with confidence by the faith of Him. And by grace, by the Spirit of God, by the Spirit of grace, God works through Christ. "Of His fullness we have all received." Can you see that it is grace for grace -i.e., by grace we receive Him and by grace we have faith in Him: faith in Him is faith that is also of Him, who by His grace is also the Author and Finisher of our faith. [Col. 1:27; Heb. 12:2]

If this is at all unclear to you, it might help to read also in the book of Galatians where it is repeatedly emphasized that our faith is the faith OF Christ, the faith OF Jesus, the faith OF the Son of God, the faith OF Jesus Christ, and the life we now live, we live by the faith OF [and in] the Son of God. [Cf. KJV Gal. 2:20]

By the grace of God the faith of Christ was at work: the power of God was worked by His Spirit, in His Name, and so the lame man was healed as Peter called upon the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result, the miracle [which was certainly, a good work, a work of God] was wrought by God, in the Name of Jesus to glorify the Name of His only Begotten Son. It is certain that [by that miracle] God glorified -not Peter, but His Son Jesus in honor of faith in Him [God] which is by the faith of Christ. Clearly Peter testified of the same. And it is to the glory of God that by the faith of Christ this thing was worked, not by Peter nor by John but instead by God through Jesus Christ by the faith of Him, even in His Name.

When we invoke the Name of Jesus Christ, we call upon the person of Jesus Christ, God the Son, through whom God works His Power by His Spirit. It should be clearly understood then that our faith is the gift of grace, our faith is of Him and by Him, not of ourselves. The faith we have in God is "in Christ" which faith is "the faith OF the Son of God", it is the faith OF Jesus, the faith OF Christ [all] by His grace.

It is imperative in this day and age of mystical powers, lying signs and wonders that we understand that not all things that are "worked by faith" or claimed to be by God, necessarily are. That includes sigs or wonders that are performed by someone who invokes Christ or invokes the name of [a] Jesus, it does not mean that the works or manifestations that follow are necessarily of God. Even when someone quotes from the word of God, this does not mean that the works are of God. Many things are worked by man's ability to believe [mind over matter or metaphysics] but that does not mean that the miracle, sign or work is of God. It makes a great deal of difference whether God through Christ works the work by the faith of Him, or if it is man working works [metaphysical] by his ability to believe or by tapping into and/or accessing some power, even if it is the power of many people of like faith joined together for a corporate work of faith. It is of God when it is by the faith of Christ; it is not of God when it is by man or man's ability to believe for something.

Even if their is an atmosphere of power, that does not mean it is God. Even if there is a release of power, that does not mean it is of God. And just because great things are done and miracles are worked, it does not mean "that power" is of God. Just because the credit is given to God or to Jesus that does not mean that was of God either. When it is by "another Jesus" [or another gospel] people may "claim" that it was worked by the Lord Jesus Christ and they can insist that the manifestations are of God but IF a thing comes to pass because man is tapping into the power of his mind [his ability to believe for a manifestation] it is metaphysics. If man is channeling a supernatural life force or weilding mystical power then it is witchcraft.

If man himself is claiming to be using God's power in order to activate or enhance his ability to believe so that he can then "works the works" or produce manifestations by his faith, then no matter how religious it is, no matter how intense the feeling or awareness of corporate power is, this is still metaphysics or mind science, formerly known as Christian Science. [Norman Vincent Peale and Robert Schuller are both this kind of practitioner.] If man is claiming to be either using or channeling God's power, then however mystical or supernatural it seems, in spite of the fact that a genuine manifestation really takes place, it is metaphysics. Even though the name "Jesus" is used and scripture is quoted, if man is using the power of man's ability to believe and if they are using the power of the mind &/or the power of the tongue, guided imagery or visualization techniquest to bring about the manifestation, then even though a person or persons get what they were believing for, in spite of the fact that the desired results are achieved, this is still metaphysics, it is the modern day practice of witchcraft or Shamanism, it is not the work of God.

Believing that God allows man to work the works of God by man through exhibitions of man's God-like faith through man's misuse and misapplication of scripture is Christian Mind Science. Regardless of what label goes on these false practices, they are the product of false doctrine, however zealous, no matter how sincere, it is wrong; and to be snared by these things is called deception but to knowingly continue in such works (just because they do work, they do achieve results) is at the very least a form of self-deception!

If you believe that you are supposed to use or tap into God's power, or that you are supposed to use the power of “God's faith” to enhance YOUR faith or empower your "ability to believe” so that you can work the works of God, it s wrong. [God works the works by His Spirit through Christ by the faith of Him.] If you believe that you are empowered or that YOU are enabled to work miracles, or if you believe you engineer [or bring about] change in yourself or others, then you still have it wrong!

His faith is not our personal power [at our disposal]: Jesus is God and He is the power of God. Although Jesus is Author and the Finisher of our faith, we need to keep in mind that the faith of Christ is just that, it is His! He is not a power tool in the hand of man. He is God. We do not use His power; instead He hides us in Himself by His power, by Jesus Christ! God works His works through Jesus Christ by His Spirit!

This is NOT a matter of semantics, it is about who is God, Who is the operative ‘person’ –you, or Jesus? If it is you, it is not Jesus and if it is Jesus [i.e., if it is God working in us 'through Christ' by His Spirit], then it is not about you, it is not about your personal empowerment, it is not about your use of His power —it is instead about Him who is the Power, the Sovereign Lord [i.e., it's about God who works the works 'through Christ' according to HIS purposes as it pleases Him!]

Sometimes the word ‘power’ refers directly to the Lord Jesus Christ [1Cor.1:24] and sometimes the word 'power' is translated as His delegated ‘authority’ [1Cor. 9:18] but regardless all the honor, the glory, the kingdom, the power and authority are all His [the Lord's] and the operation of the things of the Spirit are by God through Christ by His administration as HE wills. We also need to remember that when He said, ye shall be endued with ‘power’ from on high, that power of God is the Spirit of Christ: God moves by the Spirit of God through Jesus Christ Himself who dwells in us by the self same Spirit of God [who works His works as it pleases Him on behalf of all who have received Him.]

When we invoke the Name of Jesus, we are not accessing supernatural nor cosmic 'power' for our personal empowerment [for US to use] -instead we are calling upon God to work for us [on our behalf through His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.] When we invoke the Name of Jesus, we call upon Him, the Person of Jesus Christ, God the Son, who is Himself the Power of God [through whom, God operates by the ministration of His Holy Spirit,] i.e., via the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, the Spirit of Grace, the Spirit of Truth, --not us. [1 Cor. 6:17; 1Cor. 12:11-13; Eph. 4:4; Acts 2:17; 1Cor.1:24; Rom. 8:9; Heb.10:29; John 15:26; John 16:13]

There is nothing in which we can boast except in the Lord; it is all of Him and none of us! The “all things” that I can do, are not “through me” or ‘by me’ but by God through Christ who strengthens me: HE is the operative ‘person’: it is nevertheless not me, nevertheless not I but Christ! [We are not Him! nor do we control or use His power: we do not "USE" Jesus Christ or His power, instead God works things according to His will through Christ Jesus our Lord!]

The same thing is true about our own faith: which by the grace of God, the gift of God by His grace, not of ourselves. [1Tim.1:14] Our own faith or ability to believe [our faith towards God] comes by and is worked through Christ; it is God who works things according to His purposes 'through & by' Jesus Christ.

Our [own] "ability to believe" is not the power or the Agent of change, Jesus Himself is! True faith is faith towards God, it is trusting in Him and resting in Him; true faith is faith towards God in Christ; faith towards God which in Christ is faith that is of Him, faith that is worked by Him i.e., through Jesus Christ. But doesn't it say in His word that if we have faith, then "we" are supposed to be able to move mountains with our faith? We receive grace for obedience to the faith, which comes by grace, [Rom. 1:5; Rom. 4:16; Rom. 12:3 & 6] but it is faith, which is through Jesus Christ, worked by love [Gal. 5:6] specifically by God's love. Our faith is like the mustard seed, which comes from Him, which is also by Him and it is God who works the works through Christ who is [also] the Root and the Branch, the Author & Finisher of our faith. Likewise, it is God who decides which mountain is moved, and whenever God moves, He works through Christ Jesus by His Spirit!

The humanistic pursuit of the empowerment of man, man powered by a divine force or power within may not be what many ministers intended to teach or even what they think they are preaching, nevertheless through a mixture of Hinduism, humanism, psychology, metaphysics, mind science, New Age philosophy and spiritism, a bastardized form of the gospel is supplanting the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the churches. We really need to understand that "we" ourselves do not use His power; we also need to understand that "WE" are not the Spiritual New Man; the Spiritual Man is the Lord Himself [see 1Cor.15:47]. If we are in Christ, [2Cor. 5:17] we are "new creatures" in Him, this means that "we" are members of His body, but we are NOT Him! We are new 'creatures' IN CHRIST but HE is the Spiritual [new] Man.

The old man, the old nature is enmity against God. But Jesus is our peace, the reconciliation of man to God, He is our Peace, who has made both one -having abolished in His flesh the enmity through His cross. [Eph.2:12-16] By His cross, in Himself, He has slain the enmity, even the enmity of the old man and his nature, through Christ and thus He has reconciled both in Himself. In Jesus Christ who is our Peace [Eph. 2:14] God took of twain and in Himself, He made one new Man, and that Spiritual [new] Man is the Lord from heaven. [1Cor. 15:47] In Him, in Jesus Christ, all things are made new: in Him and by Him, we reconciled to God, in Him we are made members of one body. In Christ, in the unity of His Spirit, we are many members of spiritual building not made with hands [2Cor.5:1].

By His Spirit the whole body is "assembled together" [Heb. 10:25] a spiritual building, the whole body is fitly framed or joined together. [Eph. 4:16] We are members of HIS body, we are partakers of His Spirit joined [by Him] in the unity of the Spirit. As it is written: Eph. 4: 4-7 "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ." In this respect, we are new creatures, members of His body, but we are NOT Him.

What a shock that is to many believers, that "we" are NOT the empowered New Spiritual Man; we are members of His body but the scripture clearly says that Spiritual [new] Man is the Lord from heaven [by whom we are born again, and in whom we must be hid, hid with Christ in God.] We are not the Spiritual Man but are members of the body of Christ. And God forbid that we should glory or boast -except in the Lord Himself! [Gal. 6:14] Jesus came to be our all in all on behalf of all who will receive Him. [Eph. 1:23; Eph. 4:6] We cannot even boast in the faith we have in Him: 1) because it is the gift of His grace: no man comes to Jesus except the Father draws him and 2) because it is by grace through the faith of Him that God has called us to rest in Jesus Christ as members of the body of Him, who is our strength. ["Not I but Christ!].[Heb. 4:1; Heb. 4:3; Heb. 4:9; 2 Cor. 12:9; Phlp. 4:13; Rom. 5:6; Rev. 5:12 Rev. 12:10

Contrary to what is taught, God does not work through YOU. Instead HE works through Christ in us and He does so, by His Spirit, through Christ who is in us, not through us.

God works His works by grace through the faith of Jesus by His own Spirit. [By the faith of Jesus Christ –Gal.2:16a; by the faith of Christ –Gal. 2:16b; by the faith of Him –Eph. 3:12; by the faith of the Son of God –Gal. 2:20; KJV] When we call upon the Name of Jesus, we are calling upon Him. The working of faith, like His grace is of Him and by Him, we look to Him as we call upon His Name. It is all vicarious, as is the blessing of His substitutionary work, nevertheless not I but Christ!

Rephrasing it again, it is not us working things by our faith because we know Jesus but rather it is God working through Jesus Christ in us, on our behalf in our place, by the faith of Jesus Christ because He has called us to Himself. When we call upon His Name, we are calling upon Him. His grace is much more than His unmerited favor, His grace is His ability at work for us on our behalf; and God works [not through us] as the operative person but through the Man, Jesus Christ by His Spirit. He is the Spiritual [new] Man, and without Him, I can do nothing.

Only those things that are worked by God through Christ will stand! We need to understand one thing concerning spiritual things [of God] and that is, I simply "am not able" and He alone is Able. We are not "able" spiritually, He is; true spiritual "might" is His. If we really examine His word, we will see that even the word "might" means ‘able’ -and the word, "might" [meaning spiritually "able"] is HIS Name: He called, Mighty God, the One who alone is Able [i.e., Almighty God].

Psalm 118: 8-9] tells us: It is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in man; it is better to trust in the Lord than to trust even in princes {notable men or rulers.) And also, in Psalm 146:3 we are told, "Put not your trust in princes nor in the son of man [meaning man himself] in whom there is no help. Any truly mighty man of God knows that spiritual "might" is not his own, it is of God through Jesus Christ. Do not look upon man, for in man there is no help. Look instead to the Man, Jesus Christ! [Rom. 5:15) Look to the Lord and not unto man. Do not look to anyone who thinks he is a Jesus-powered-man, if he thinks he has the use of the power of God, nor to any man who believes "he" is able to work the works of God, look instead to Him who being found in fashion as a man, humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross; look to Jesus Christ.

Look to the Lord for the teaching & hearing of His word; willingly receive only His word, His Gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. [Not "another Jesus" or "another gospel; not the gospel of Self, not even the gospel of 'who or what' man says he [man] is... [Phlp 2:8] To me it is no small wonder why [under the inspiration of Holy Spirit] Paul the Apostle said, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified." [1Cor. 2:2] Because it is written, God forbid that we should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world." "For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake." [2Cor.4:5] Our boast is not in ourselves, neither do we preach ourselves -but would you know that, from what you hear taught in the churches today?

Ever since the fall of man, man has looked & lusted within himself to be like God ["I will ascend to the heights, I will be like the Most High God" cf. Isa.14:13] and unfortunately, religious orders and denominations [with a smorgasbord of religious doctrines] have combined to become the most powerful vehicle by which man continues his ungodly [empowerment] quest to be “like the Most High God.” The truth is, there is no difference in the sight of God whether man is trying to be like God, or if we are trying to achieve Christ-like-ness/or thirsting for power to be like Christ, because He is God!This may shock a lot of Christians AND it will no doubt ruffle a lot of feathers but we are not called to be like the Most High God, neither are we called to try to be like Jesus, however we are called to rest in Him, conformed by Him to His image and likeness by be hidden in Him and by Him who is Himself the express image and likeness of God -who also died for us to earn the right to redeem us -mortal men who have fallen short of the glory of God, unto Himself. Remember that it is by His grace, and His power that HE [God] *conforms us to His image, the image of His Son..

To be conformed to His image means we are positionally hid in Jesus Christ who is the express image & likeness of God because He is God. [See Rom. 8:29; Heb. 1:3; Col. 3:3-4;] *We are conformed by Him through association -by Him uniting of us to Himself [by the earnest of His Spirit]. We are not 'conformed to His image or likeness' by our efforts to mimic His virtue, or how successful we are at copying His behavior or trying to practice having His attitudes or attributes! It is not about our works, our own works are dead works. The only works spiritually acceptable to God are those works that are worked by Him who is our Life, i.e., Jesus Christ, by His Spirit.)

Doesn't the Bible say that we are called "to walk even as Jesus walked" ? [1 John 2:6] Absolutely! BUT HOW did Jesus walk? The fact is Jesus Himself rested in the Father and the Father worked the works by His Spirit. As it is written, "...that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself." [2Cor.5:18-19] Jesus Himself even said, “not I but the Father”... [John 14:10] And Jesus also said, "of my own self I can do nothing." [John 5:30]

P ALIGN="justify">I have even been asked, What about where the Bible says, as HE is so are we in this world? That's another one of those questions that arise because a small section of one verse is taken out of it's proper context, what the scripture actually says is: 1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world." So in answer to that question, looking to the word of God based on the scripture, I would have to say: if we really want to be as he is -because of His love & desire for the salvation of souls, we should be about the business of saving souls and interceding for others, as it is written: Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

Please do not mistake what I am saying: I am not saying that everything that is taught in the churches is wrong but I am challenging you to seriously consider the growing number of damnable heresies that are being taught among us. We are commanded to be watchful to discern error and there is more than just a passing need to differentiate between the empowerment of man [to be like God] versus resting in Him who is the Power of God. I am challenging you to carefully consider "which Gospel" and "which Jesus" really is at your church?

Is the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ the message you have received or is the Jesus in whom you trusted at the first, now being systematically exchanged by another Jesus? Is such a challenge justified? If Paul the Apostle thought so, why shouldn't we? 2Cor. 13:5 "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"

The real Jesus Christ was and is NOT a way-show-er who came to show us the way, HE Himself IS the Way! He died not only to save us but also to receive us unto Himself. By His cross He has taken our life, reckoned us as dead unto sin but alive unto God through Jesus Christ, [Rom.6:11] and we are hid with Christ in God. [Col. 3:3] Jesus is the Way to the Father; [John 14:6] Jesus has redeemed us [Gal. 3:13, Rev. 9:5] and has sanctified us in Himself [1Cor.1:2; 1Cor.6:11] through His work on the cross and by His resurrection, [Gal.6:14] our faith is in Him and we our trust is in His works, His merit and His virtue, not our own!

Let's explore some more misplaced truths and strategically placed false doctrines in the churches. Through the acceptance of so many humanistic beliefs, psychology has a strangle hold on the people of God. Psychology is essentially a secular science; it is man's own science & study of self. Both psychology and humanism share essentially the same common goal, the promotion of self. Like Psychology, Humanism also focuses on various methods for revamping man and both psychology and humanism share the same humanist manifesto: to be all that YOU can be. Be all that YOU can be is the essence of the humanist manifesto which is the same philosophy being taught in the churches, its just that Christians are taught how to tap into the power of God or to use the things of God [prayer + the power of the word] to achieve that same goal.

To think we would even see the day that this clarification should even have to be made, as ridiculous as this may sound, the goal of Christianity is not supposed to be the Humanist Manifesto! Instead of fostering pride in self and learning to esteem ourselves, instead of pursuing the quest to be all that WE can be, I would really like to know what happened to the very biblical principal of esteeming not ourselves? What happened to "putting one the Lord Jesus Christ" [Rom. 13:14] and being clothed with Christ [1Pet.5:5] & what happened to being hid in Him who is our Life, [Col.3:3] so that Jesus can be all that HE IS for us in our stead? Instead of resting in Him who alone is able, we still can't seem to resist our vanity [humanistic tendency] to want to be all that "we" can be, even twisting the Gospel to try to sanction our pursuit of a sacrilegious quest to be "like the Most High God."

Christians do not realize just how much humanism really has impacted the churches, it has affected the way we apply the word of God to our lives, it has even affected the way we pray! Consider for just a moment the fact that we have applied humanist philosophies to Christianity for so long, that we do not even realize that our religious quest is not the Gospel and we do not even know how to pray without asking God to make "us" able -we don't even realize we are praying and asking amiss, according to our lusts [lust for power, for signs, for wonders, for wealth etc.]

His ways are not as our ways and His thoughts are not as our thoughts, in fact, as high as the heavens are higher than the earth so are His thoughts and His ways above our ways. [See Isa. 55:8-9] With such a humanistic slant on Christian teachings, the Holy Spirit has been reduced to the level of some kind of a mystical genie in a bottle as though God has lent us the use of "His Spirit" &/or His "power" so that we can fullfil our ultimate destiny. Now that we have seen the light, not only can we learn to perform the works of God, we can not only measure up to God's moral standards but at long last we can complete our quest and realize our destiny.

Many Christians really believe that when Jesus came [and died] God released His power to the end that all things are now possible to man and if we believe, we can successfully complete our quest and fullfil our destiny to be fully Christed Sons Of God -just like as Jesus was [?] -empowered by God, we can now be as God! [You might want to refer to Isaiah chapter 14 verses 12-14 and compare the Man-Power "Christian" Quests with the goals that Lucifer had purposed in his own heart.

Just as God's ways are much higher than ours, and His thoughts [His plan] above our thoughts, we must not forget that Almighty God has purposed instead that "through Christ" God would hide us [Adam] in Himself and that it is His desire to work all things for us "through" Christ [by Jesus Christ, the Second Adam, the Spiritual new Man, i.e., the Lord from heaven] to the glory of God the Father. [1Cor. 15:47] When you ask the Lord to make you able, instead the Father will let you see that YOU cannot be "able". If you ask God to make YOU patient, He has to let you see that you cannot be patient [instead He can work His patience for you through Christ.] If you ask God to give you wisdom, He has to show you that man cannot use wisdom wisely [look at Solomon for an example] and so instead, Jesus Christ has been made wisdom unto us. The wisest thing to ask if you are seeking wisdom is to ask the Only Wise God to lead you with His eye by the Counsel of His Spirit through Jesus Christ. If you ask God to give you strength, He will teach you that His grace is sufficient and that it isn't in your strength but in your WEAKNESS that HIS strength is made perfect. HE is God [not a power tool]. Since HE Alone is Able, Can you now see how asking God to make YOU able is tantamount to asking God to make you like God?

How can we say [continue to pretend] that we are really humbling ourselves before, how can we insist that we are asking God to "work the works for us through Christ" when instead, we are teaching one another how to use our "faith" [our ability to believe] to get what we want? How can we pretend this stuff has anything to do with the Gospel of Jesus Christ? If we are going to insist upon using Him and His word or His power to achieve the same goals as the world, then why not just call it what it is? -the World's Church. Many would argue that the churches are not teaching the deification of man but the fact is: when we claim that we have the Mind of God, when we parade ourselves before the eyes of the whole world saying that we are empowered to use our minds and our thoughts to create, and when we teach that by the power of our ability to believe we [like God] can call things into being & cause things to be manifested, -then even the heathen can see that's the same thing as proclaiming ourselves to be Gods.

Either knowingly or unwittingly, the churches are actively recruiting New Age speakers and have been favoring spiritually bankrupt theologians who promote the cause of man [humanism] rather than the cause of Christ. These same apostate teachers and ministers are promoting the vainglorious idea that man has always been destined to perform the works of God. Many Christians now believe that it was for this very reason that man has [through Christ] finally been given the season of power that man needs in order to achieve his fullest Christ-like divine potential.

Unknowingly, "Word of Faith" preachers have crossed the line between scriptural truth and gross error, and they have done so, so often that the thin line between truth and error has been systematically blurred to obliteration. Truth has been replaced by half-truths because we have ignorantly adopted the practice of misusing fractured portions of scripture to teach many doctrines that are not Biblical at all.

And what is this stuff that WE can know or that we have the Mind of God? Who can know the Mind of the Spirit but the Spirit of God?We have the Mind of Christ! How many times have you heard that portion of scripture used to teach that we have God-like-minds or that the Power of the Mind of God is [another power tool] at our disposal as though we ourselves literally possess & can use the Mind of God? It is written, however, (1Cor.1:14) “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. vs. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”

Read the entire 1st chapter of the 1st Book of Corinthians and you will find that the Apostle Paul was addressing the “unity of the faith” which was severely strained due to divisions in the church [because of a serious lack of discernment and spiritual understanding.] Paul was explaining to the “super-spiritual yet carnal Corinthians” that they even though they thought themselves to be spiritual, they were yet carnal. Paul admonished them concerning their need to seek the Lord to inquire of God to reveal the Mind of His Spirit concerning His word so that they might all be of one mind, in one accord, through understanding of spiritual things that can only be obtained from God by seeking Him for the Counsel of His Spirit.

Having the “mind” of Christ also means that [through Christ in us] as believers we are to have the same attitude of heart in the spirit of our minds, as did the Lord Jesus Christ, who in humility & meekness, walked in obedience submitting Himself in all things to the will of the Father! We are to ask the Father by His grace to work obedience for us on our behalf [since our obedience is not our own but comes only by the gift of grace through the Obedience of Christ. And by grace it must be by the "obedience of Christ" otherwise, we would no doubt find our boast in the flesh, like the Corinthians, concerning our obedience and/or our mature spirituality!]

How dangerous can man’s misuse of the word of God really be? As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, the road to apostasy is paved with many half-truths. Taking a snippet from one verse out of the 23rd chapter of the Book of Proverbs, men use one error to support yet another. We have already been told, “we have the Mind of God”. Compounding our errors, we are told: as a man thinks, so he is and then we are taught, "what you think is what you are!"

"What you think is what you are?" The real danger in establishing this kind of mind science principal is this: if what you think is what you are, then [you can also be led to believe that]: since God creates in His mind and then simply speaks His thoughts into existence, then since we have the Mind of God and we also have the written word of God, then we can learn to think & speak like God, AND if you can learn to think like God, then you can be like God!

By that kind of logic, man begins to establish all kinds of erroneous principals that purport to be based on scripture. The basic logic that is being applied to some "Bible" teachings is if A equals B and B equals C, then A equals C. For instance in point, A) We know that GOD is a Spirit [John 4:24] and in point, B) We know that MAN is a spiritual being, MAN has a spirit, soul and body [1Thess. 5:23] then human logic could reason -in point, C) Since God is a Spirit and since man is a spiritual being born of the same Spirit, then of course, it follows that MAN is GOD. That kind of deductive reasoning applied to the word of God is Hogwash! But sadly, it is taking place in Bible studies, in Bible schools, in seminaries and in everyday ministry teachings. I entreat you to consider the word of God in its entirety!

Isaiah 43:10 "Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me." Isaiah 43:12 "I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God."

One small fragment of scripture has been taken out of the entire 23rd chapter of the Book of Proverbs ["as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he"] and once it is removed from its proper context, it is then twisted out of context and used to teach things contrary to its meaning.

A thirsty man stranded in a wasteland may visualize a well overflowing with water but that is not called faith, it is called a mirage! Men may be successful at misusing scripture to entice people into believing principals and doctrines that the Bible does not teach but in those broken cisterns there is no Life giving water. There is a thin line between true faith and self-deception. True faith leads men to God in Christ Jesus –but self-deception leads men to delusional thinking: to believe that man can be like the Most High God.

A recurrent theme of the world tells us that nothing man can think, dream or imagine is impossible for him; thus elevating man to the level of God. For with God, the scripture says, nothing is impossible. [Mark 10:27 “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.; Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible”.]

Driven on in his quest for godhood, man is making a name for himself in the earth, exalting men as gods. Though there be many which are called gods, these are false gods: for there is no other God besides the One, True Living God. [see 1Cor. 8:4-7]

It is blasphemy for a mere mortal to claim deity. The Pharisees did not believe that Jesus was God and so they sought to stone Him because He said He was The Son of God. John 10: 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? Jesus had every right to make that claim.

Men who claim to be God are blasphemers; God is God, man is not; and there is but One True God. Jesus is God, the Word of God made flesh, God the Son, the Only Begotten Son of God. Although as Christians we have the right to call God our Heavenly Father and it is true that we are born of His Spirit, we are counted as sons of God, ‘in Christ” yet we are not “God the Son” and we are not God.

Those who are led by the Spirit of God shall be called the sons of God but that does not mean we are GODS as His sons! We are given the power [Jesus] to be called [accepted] as sons of God “in and by Him” who is the Only Begotten Son of God by the adoption of His Spirit in Christ! Through Christ, by the faith of Jesus, there are [will be] many sons: members of the body of Christ; we have been adopted by His Spirit as sons of God in Him. We are not “GODS” in Christ, we are hidden in Him and by Him who is God! We are not called to be like the Most High God, we are called to be conformed to/hidden in Him who is the express image and likeness of God because He is God!

John 10: 35 “If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken…” It is extremely important to note the scripture does not say that He called men “God”. He called them gods unto whom the word of God came… The word ‘gods’ when applied to men figuratively refers to the God given authority of judges or magistrates, even to those who are great and mighty [even among men] still this does not mean that men are GODS.

Psalms 82:6 I have said <0559> (8804), Ye are gods <0430>; and all of you are children <01121> of the most High <05945> <0430> Æelohiym el-o-heem’; plural of 0433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:—angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.

God did not refer to His children as supreme beings or supreme Gods. He is very specific about how He views men who vaunt themselves as Gods. As children of God to whom the word of God has come, we do have the responsibility to judge righteous judgment. Even though we are children of the most High, many have gotten thoroughly carried away with what they think they are called to be in Christ. There are many who seem to have forgotten that the scripture warns us even though men vaunt themselves as gods, even though we mount up with wings as eagles, … it is man’s lust is to think, "we are gods". The Lord Himself is God and He will bring all these [false] ‘gods’ down as men. [Read Psalm 82]

A thoroughly humanistic quest [for godhood, or God-like-ness] has made its way into the churches through the teaching of psychology and metaphysical mind science doctrines that have been disguised as Biblical truth. This practice [of trying to use scripture to teach metaphysics] used to be called Christian Science, or Religious Mind Science, or Science of the Mind, but whatever you call it, it is running rampant throughout the churches.

Men are wresting the word of God by turning, twisting and perverting the meaning of scriptures in order to teach science of the mind, i.e. metaphysical pseudo-Christian religious mind science doctrines of which "you are what you think" is only one example. Many other portions of Scripture are also being misused to teach the same kinds of error. Take for instance the teaching that Abraham saw or visualized "all that he would be". We are now taught that Abraham became our example as the father of faith, an example that we are to do the same: you too can visualize all that you can be! [Visualize what you can be!] What a gross misrepresentation of the word of God!

It was God who showed Abraham what God was going to do. And Abraham believed God “by the faith of Christ" [who was to come]. Abraham believed God, knowing that the things which God showed him would be the fulfillment of the Promise of God [i.e., salvation by faith in Jesus Christ] even as God Himself "preached the Gospel" to Abraham. And Abraham received the promise of salvation through Christ, which was made to Abraham by God which [thing] was also fulfilled by God! [see Galatians 3:7-10] Jesus Himself testified of God the Father’s works when He said, "your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and he sought it, and was glad " [John 8:56]

Abraham himself was not the agent of change by what he saw, God was! And the faith of Abraham was the faith of Jesus Christ which [faith] was worked for Abraham by the grace of God. God was and is the Agent of change and that, through Jesus Christ. We are saved by faith which is "of Him and by Him" who is the Author and the Finisher of our faith, just as He was also "the Author and Finisher" of the faith of Abraham! And that is why it is written: by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man [and that includes Abraham] should boast!

If you can think it, you can have it; if you can picture it, it will be --these are just a few of the gross errors being widely taught and affirmed in the churches through manipulation of the written word. Many pastors and teachers are fracturing scriptures in order to teach so-called "theological concepts" which in reality are psychological and metaphysical Mind Science doctrines, principals which the word of God not only does not support but also actually warns us against. [1 Timothy 6:20-21] Beware! No matter how scriptural these kinds of teachings may seem to be, many well respected teachers and ministers of the word of God are unwittingly leading the people astray. [Isaiah 9:16 ] You and I must be vigilant and do our homework: read the word of God, check to see if the application of scripture in any given teaching is consistent with the context and the overall message of the word God in its entirety.

If you go to the word of God yourself, you will find that the Bible itself does NOT teach what many men preach.

In our example, if you look at the portion of scripture from which these ministers and Bible teachers get their text, Proverbs 23:7, when you replace the portion of scripture [that has being misused] and read it [along with the verses situated both above and below it] -once you put the phrases "back into" the proper context in scripture, you will find it has no such meaning or application. Rather than rending the scriptures in such a way as to support Mind Science principles, it is ironic that this verse of scripture [Proverbs 23:7] is actually speaking not only of the greed and depravity of man's heart but it is in fact showing how deceitful the heart of man is. The heart or mind of man is so deceitful that man can even use the scripture to teach lies instead of truth! Deceitfulness and greed is the correct meaning and proper application most consistent with the text in Proverbs 23. It is also the meaning that is in keeping with scriptures found elsewhere in the word of God: Jeremiah 17:9 "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”.

On Life and Conduct Proverbs 23:1

1. WHEN you sit down to dine with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you;
2 And put a knife to your throat, If you are a man of great appetite.
3 Do not desire his delicacies, For it is deceptive food.
4 Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, Cease from your consideration of it.
5 When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings, Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.
6 Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, Or desire his delicacies;
7 For *as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you.
8 You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten, And waste your compliments. *NASB

Proverbs 23: 1 RSV

1When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you;
2 and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.
3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.
4 Do not toil to acquire wealth; be wise enough to desist.
5 When your eyes light upon it, it is gone; for suddenly it takes to itself wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.
6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies;
7 for he is like one who is inwardly reckoning. “Eat and drink!” he says to you; but his heart is not with you.
8 You will vomit up the morsels which you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words.
9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words. ** RSV [Revised Standard Version]

* The New American Standard Bible, La Habra, California: The Lockman Foundation 1977.

“For as he thinks within himself, so is he.” [*Quite literally it means: the way or manner in which a ruler or notable man "reckons in his soul", so is he [i.e. hypocritical and deceitful]. You could explain it like this: do not trust what a man like this says because even though, in this case, the man acts like he wants you to eat, he merely pretends that he is looking out for your benefit. Even though outwardly he puts on a pretense or show that he is for you, inwardly he despises you. In the inward reckoning of his mind or soul, he despises you. By saying one thing while he is thinking another, he is showing his true nature, and meanwhile, he is dealing deceptively with you. Isn’t this the natural way of man, especially man when he has gotten a taste of power?

What are the natural ways of man according to scripture? What are the ways of his soul, i.e., the carnal mind of man? According to scripture the answer is: man's ways are deceitful and his heart is wicked. The scripture tells us that the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know [or discern] it ? [See Jeremiah 17: 9]

Who but God Himself can know or discern the way of man's heart? The way of man's heart is to err; the way of his heart is deceptive, so is his mind or thinking. Man easily deceives his own soul. But who can discern the ways of man? Certainly not man! And who can know the things of God but by the Spirit of God? It should not be surprising to us that "as man thinks" --as men rely more and more upon his own ways, as men rely upon the teachings of man, [instead of relying upon the word of God in Spirit and in Truth] then by the deceitfulness of our own hearts or minds, we deceive ourselves and are led astray in our own folly.

In scripture we are admonished that the natural mind of man is without spiritual knowledge, he lacks discernment in spiritual things. And so it is, when a man -even a Minister, begins to rely upon the faculties of his own mind, when he begins to trust his human intellect and rely upon human faculties &/or applies faulty human reasoning to the things of God, he is subject to deception. When a man leans unto his own understanding especially concerning the things of the Spirit, then he deceives not only his own self but also all who hear and believe him.

When men glean so-called "truths" [or principals] from scripture that are based on fractured fragments of scripture, which have been taken out of their proper context, these are teachings of man's own mind. There is no place for pseudo-biblical teachings which are intellectual babblings of supposedly learned or notable men. All too easily we begin to receive and rely upon doctrines, which are taught to us of men; we place our faith in the teachings of men and trust in the mental calculations of man's own mind. Man-made doctrines have much appeal to us in man's own way of thinking. [When we like what we hear, we embrace and then equate!] Whenever we allow our heads to be turned in admiration of man, in our folly, we soon equate these teachings of man with the unadulterated word of the living God.

Proverbs 23:7 could be stretched to say it addresses the unreliability of man's reasoning but more importantly the passages in this Psalm demonstrate and expose for us our own self deceptive tendencies. It is not at all surprising that in the deceitfulness of man's own ways, we have found a way to use the scripture itself to support the things that are of men and not of God.

When it comes right down to it, many people know there's something seriously wrong with what is going on in the churches today but they just can't put the finger on what it is.

A major part of what is wrong is the fact that the ways of man have invaded the churches. Doctrines of man have led the people of God to embrace damnable heresies.

If we could define humanism as man's pursuit of the perfection of self and then couch that definition within the framework of what is deemed to be scriptural in the churches today, we would then see that many ministers of the Gospel are actually teaching a curious blend of Hinduism, Humanist philosophy, psychology and self-help Mind Science. Hinduism: all is one. Humanist philosophy: to be first, best or number one. Psychology: the study or science of self. and self-help Mind Sciences [the empowerment of self].

More "science of the mind" and metaphysical "how-to" mind over matter principles are being taught in the churches then there is the truth of the word of God (and even less repentance by and through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.)

Christian or not, you cannot "think yourself out of sin and into holiness". Even as Christians, we cannot think ourselves into righteousness but we can submit our ungodly ways and thoughts unto Him who is our righteousness! We can cast down imaginations; we can repent of sinful thoughts, confess our faults and submit ourselves unto God through Jesus Christ.

The cure for what ails mankind cannot be changed metaphysically; simply by getting our thinking right. Via the sciences of man, including Mind Sciences, man can learn to modify his behavior but not change his nature. Only God, through Jesus Christ, can change man. We can ask God to change our hearts through Jesus Christ! It is by God through Jesus Christ that our hearts are changed; and it is God who conforms us into the image of His Dear Son. That work is the work of God who works all things in Himself after the Council of His own will and He [God] does so in, by and through Jesus Christ. [Romans 11:36; 1Corinthians 12:6; 12:11; 8:6; 1Cor. 1:15-17; 1 Cor. 15:28; Ephesians 1:11; 3:20; Philippians 2:13; Colossians 1:29; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Colossians 3:11]

We need to remember that the Pharisees thought that their knowledge of scripture was their salvation. But Jesus Himself told them: you search the Scriptures and in them you think you have eternal life but they testify of Me. We also need to remember that the word of God is not merely a what, but a Who! Jesus Christ is the word of truth by which God works all things. By the power of His Holy Spirit [through Christ in us] it is God Himself who washes us and God Himself renews our mind by the Power of His Word, i.e. by Jesus Christ. By Him, in Him and through Him, we are changed; not by the power of our own mind, not by thinking better or more positive thoughts or visualizing and imagining better things for ourselves, not even by using the scriptures as mantras or as power filled incantations by which we can engineer change! It is not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit said the Lord. [Zechariah 4:6]

Men who make FALSE GODS of men are not unlike the silversmiths of Paul's day who fashioned idols used in the worship of Greek and Roman gods. Even though today's silversmiths would have us believe that we are all called to be like God and though we are being taught how to gain empowerment of man through our misuse of God's word, the corrective judgments of God will bring an end to such folly. Even though men teach men that we were always meant to fashion ourselves into little gods [a little lower than Jesus] and though we are taught how to achieve a false Christ likeness of man: even though by these doctrines men form idols by the work of men's hands, God will grind the idolatry of men to powder. The King of kings and Lord of lords is against all the corrupt ways of men and such works shall not hinder the work of God, it is by His Spirit according to His purposes, even as when He spoke to Zerubbabel: "then He answered and spake unto me, saying, this is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, not but might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Jesus said that He Himself would "build His church". The bride of Christ is not the work of men's hands; the Church that He is building is not the product of the pseudo scriptural gymnastics of the minds of men. His Church is the work of His hands; it is the work of God worked by God through Jesus Christ by His Holy Spirit! We are a spiritual building not made with hands, nor by the power of our minds, or the heretical teachings and psychological techniques of men!

The purveyors of false doctrines and oppositions of science in the church would have us believe that you can be whatever you can imagine, and that you can have "whatever you can visualize". Many ministers are on unknowingly teaching metaphysics and not the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And when men mix these false teachings with the Gospel, they unknowingly create another gospel, a false gospel. In 2 Corinthians 11:4, Paul the Apostle warned us against "another gospel" and he also warned against another Jesus. The Apostle Paul warned us against another Jesus, like the one that is being taught in the churches today. There is now a Jesus [taught among us] that many now say "became Christed" at His baptism and thereby this Jesus [supposedly] "became" [at that point] a fully commissioned "Son of God". This [false] Jesus is a Way-show-er; this [false] Jesus came to be our example, an ascended Master from whom we could all learn how to be 'little Christs'. This [false] Jesus came to show us all how to become "little gods" as fully empowered SONS of God, in our own right! [MSOG]

Blasphemous Mind Science heresies such as these have been in the churches since the days of Spinoza and at various times have been recycled, as in the case of the FALSE doctrines of Christian Mind Science made so popular by the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Science movement.

You may feel secure in the knowledge that your church or your pastor is not teaching Mind Science doctrines or metaphysics but all those who are blending psychology with scripture are teaching the same thing! Just because your pastor preaches against metaphysics, and just because your pastor says he does NOT teach these doctrines that does not mean he isn't teaching them! Many are unaware of the fact that the doctrines they teach are mind science teachings. Many are unaware of the fact that the so-called science of psychology is also heresy in the churches, and they are also equally unaware of the fact that psychology is pure metaphysics. It is interesting to note that [in her book, The Miscellaneous Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, 1883-1889] Mary Baker Eddy clearly stated: as an understood statement of fact: that psychology is pure metaphysics and that metaphysics is Science of The Mind, i.e. Mind Science.

The churches today have become much like spiritual mine fields! Though it is written that there must needs be heresies among us that they which are approved may be made manifest among us, [1 Corinthians 11:19] if you're out there wondering why you are being drawn by the Holy Spirit to get away from certain ministries or their teachings, [2 Corinthians 6:16-18; Revelation 18:4] perhaps it is because the Lord Himself is trying to show you that these ministries are in fact teaching a form of Christianized Humanism along with various other aspects of Religious Mind Science or Metaphysics under the name of Christianity.

At the heart of the "mind over matter principles" is the basic humanist concept or premise that the Mind is God, or that it has God-like potential. The underlying Divine Principle that reigns supreme is Self, e.g. "if you can change your thinking, you can change you life, &/or rule in this life ". Your pastor may preach that he does not believe in “mind over matter” principals, and he probably does not think that the “mind” is God but if he is teaching you that if you change your thinking, or get your thinking right, you can change your life, if the operative person is YOU and if “the power” is the potential locked within your empowered or sanctified mind, then the basic Mind Science Principal is still the same! The same basic philosophies are used to teach Christians that simply by applying certain [biblical] principles, you can bring the physical realm into obedience to manifest whatever you choose: this is the practice of applied Mind Science, otherwise known as Metaphysics. When it is taught under the guise of Christianity, it used to be called, Christian Mind Science or Religious Science.

No matter what it is called: the application of certain kinds of mental affirmations is still the same lie, even when it is practiced in “Christian psychology”. No matter what label or mask it wears, these practices are pure metaphysics. The practice of metaphysics or practicing the various forms of Mind Science is essentially the same thing: it’s a beginner's course in the ABCs of witchcraft; it is not Christian. As the occult and cultic practices continue to invade the churches, metaphysical manifestations are being mistaken for [and touted as] genuine miracles of God. But not everything that is supernatural or mystical is of God.

Many Christians have mistaken basic lessons in the art of witchcraft as scriptural practices and have confused these teachings with sound Biblical doctrine. This is easy to do because the lessons have been cleverly couched in scriptural sounding language and/or are being taught by respectable even revered ministers. As a result, the manifest sons of God [MSOG] are well on their way to achieving mastery of their craft. It's enough to make some novice practitioners of Wicca downright envious. It is not without significance that the manifestations of gold teeth or gold fillings, the manifestation of gold dust [materializing out of no where -gold dust falling upon the people, -these same signs and wonders are in the occult understood to signify that the occult practioners are in an advanced stage (of achieving mastery) of their craft. But my question is by what measure have these signs been determined to be of God, are they being sanctioned simply because they are taking place in the churches? Or simply because the name of Jesus has been invoked? or simply because the Bible is present or scriptures where used in the teachings? ALL THOSE who are hailing these manifestations as thought these works or signs are indeed from the Lord God, would do well to re-examine the teachings in their church(es) in the Light of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!] that

At the apostasy reaches its zenith, there are more adaptations of the various Religious Mind Science doctrines being taught in the churches then there are remnants of truth, of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Rehashed, revamped, and repackaged metaphysical Christian Science doctrine [complete with its own spiritualized brand of applied psychology, formerly known as Science Of The Mind or Religious Mind Science] is being reproduced in the churches at an alarming rate. The Word Of Faith movement and other interrelated groups are currently popularizing these teachings. Part of the appeal of these false teachings is the fact they really do produce tangible results. But no matter how good the results may seem to be in our own sight, not everything that produces results or accomplishes that which we set out to achieve is necessarily of God.

Take heed that no man deceive you! Simply because the teachings are promoted in the churches, and just because they invoke the name of Jesus and use the Bible in the process, it does not mean that these things are of God! Advocates of Dominion theology, Kingdom Now theology, Word Of Faith and Latter Rain teachers [and yes, even Promise Keepers] are all unknowingly promoting the same false Science of the Mind teachings ["Christian style"] as did Mary Baker Eddy but with one major difference: today's ministers of this false gospel are much more convincing and are producing much better results in their "hour" of power.

"And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My Name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. " [Matthew 24:4-5]

Notice the first thing Jesus mentioned when his disciples asked Him what would be the sign of His coming and of the end of the world, Jesus answered saying, "Take heed that no man deceive you.” It could be said that deception [of man by man or by the teachings of men] could be considered a primary sign or hallmark of His coming, and of the end of the world. Also keep in mind that the Greek word " Christ " means, Anointed. How many are being deceived by the teachings of men who just happened to be saying, I am anointed [?].

When Jesus warned against men who say they are Christ, there is no doubt the statement included a warning to be wary of the teachings of many that would rise up among us, who would claim to be anointed to teach things that are approved in the sight of [religious] men but nevertheless are things which are not approved of God. Consider carefully the fact that the warning Jesus gave to his disciples in Matthew Chapter 24 tells us that not only are we to reject false Christs but His warning also means we are to beware of spiritual giants and/or "mighty men” of God [who claim to be of God but] who are running around claiming to be gods, or Christs in their own right!

Our Lord's warning was given so that we might recognize that same deception even when it comes to us from within the churches: even when it is presented to us by well respected leaders, even when it is packaged in a less conspicuous manner by those to come to us saying, or even shouting, "I Am Anointed." IF THEY TEACH NOT ACCORDING TO HIS WORD, IF THEY TEACH NOT ACCORDING TO HIS GOSPEL, THEN THE TRUTH IS NOT IN THEM!

Take heed that no man deceive you! Read the word of God yourself! These are spiritually perilous times. Be sure to take what you read before the Lord: ask Him by His Spirit to show you: Ask Him to teach you what He means by what His word says! Search the word and see if the teachings are so! Do not accept teachings that are not consistent with the proper context of the written word.

Various Translations of Proverbs 23 verse 4, 5, 6, 7

Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven. Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies; For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, But his heart is not with you.NKJV Copyright 1982 Thomas Nelson

Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, Cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings like an eagle that flies toward the heavens. Do not eat the bread of a selfish man , Or desire his delicacies; For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, "Eat and drink !" But his heart is not with you. NASB 1995 Lockman Foundation

Do not toil to acquire wealth; be wise enough to desist. When your eyes light upon it, it is gone; for suddenly it takes to itself wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy ; do not desire his delicacies; for he is like one who is inwardly reckoning. "Eat and drink!" he says to you; but his heart is not with you. RSV

Labor not to be rich: cease from thy own wisdom. Wilt thou set thy eyes upon that which is not? For [riches] certainly make to themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle towards heaven. Eat thou not the bread of [him that hath] an evil eye; neither desire thou his dainties; For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart [is] not with thee. Webster's

Labour not to make wealth, From thine own understanding cease, Dost thou cause thine eyes to fly upon it? Then it is not. For wealth maketh to itself wings, As an eagle it flieth to the heavens. Eat not the bread of an evil eye, And have no desire to his dainties; For as he hath thought in his soul, so [is] he, `Eat and drink,' saith he to thee, And his heart [is] not with thee.Young's

Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence: wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens. Eat not thou the food of him that hath an evil eye; neither desire thou his dainties; For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee. Darby

Weary not thyself to be rich; Cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For [riches] certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven. Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye; neither desire thou his dainties; For as he thinketh within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee. One of our best defenses against error is reading the word of God; Check the proper context of any portions of scripture that are cited in the teaching: use any standard version of the Bible, and look to see if the context and Spirit of the written word supports each teaching. Make sure the correct application of the verse is been used in its proper context, and beware of the deceitful ways of man's heart, even your own.

The scripture does in no way support the metaphysical Mind Science teaching that man's mind is his potential, neither are we called to be gods, nor are we called to be little Christs.

And what about Dominion &/or Kingdom theology? As Christians, we are not to be concerned about what day or hour He is coming but instead we are to take care that our house is ready for the Master of the House when He returns! As Christians, we need not be concerned about “taking the kingdom by force” because He has already told us, the Kingdom and the Power are His, and we have His assurance: fear not little flock for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.

As Christians, we are not to be concerned about what we shall eat or about what we shall wear; our heavenly Father knows that we have need of all these things. The Kingdom of God is not a place that you can say, Lo here it is or Lo, there it is: for the kingdom of God is within you. What is the kingdom of God? God is King of the Universe. And as King, He rules by His word, i.e., by Jesus Christ. The kingdom of God is the rule of God [in our hearts] by the word of God, i.e., by Jesus Christ. [Christ in us, the Hope of glory!] We are called to submit ourselves unto God and to look to Him to supply all of our needs. We are not called to learn how to metaphysically manipulate our circumstances in order to try to meet our every need. We are called to seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

We are not called to try to transform ourselves into little images of God by the power of the mind, or the power of the tongue. God created us in the image of God, after His likeness: which means we were created by Him and also in Him: He created us in Him, i.e. in Christ, who is Himself the image and likeness of God [because he is God!] Of our own selves, we are not the image and likeness of God but we were created in Him who is! There is only One True, express image and likeness of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. [Hebrews 1:3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 3:9]

We are not called to perform spiritual gymnastics in order to try to ‘manifest ourselves’ as sons of God, instead we are called to wait for the manifestation of the sons of God “in Christ” which occurs at His coming! Beloved it does not yet appear what we shall be …but when Him who is our Life shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him….when HE appears, we know we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is. Note that our hope is in Him, and this blessed change does not occur until the second coming of our Lord. At His coming, we shall be changed and this corruptible shall put on the incorruptible!

The entire emphasis in scripture is not upon us “manifesting Him” but upon being hidden in Him and by Him; upon us waiting patiently for Him –and for the day when we shall see Him as He is! Meanwhile, we are called to "put on Christ" and be "clothed with Him" who is our Righteousness. [Colossians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 5:2;]

We are to be conformed to His image: the image of His Son. We are called to be conformed by Him [God] into His image, i.e. into Jesus Christ. [Ephesians 1:10] We are called to be hidden together with Christ in God, [Colossians 3:3] to the end that "When Christ, who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory." [Romans 8:29; Colossians 1:15; Colossians 3:3]

Ever since the fall in the Garden of Eden, man has lusted to be like God. We are not empowered to be like God. Instead we are called by God to be hidden in Him who is God by Him who is the power of God. We are hidden in Him who is God by the power of God, i.e. in and through Jesus Christ. [2 Corinthians 3:18] Yet today the lie of the garden of Eden still persists within the soul of man, and now even resonates through the churches: ye shall be as God!

Remember that it is written: [Psalm 82:1] "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods." That same Psalm goes on to say, in verse 6, "I have said, ye [are] gods; and all of you [are] children of the most High, … [which is followed by the all important conclusion of such things:] "…but ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes." [Psalm 82:6-7]

One understanding from scripture ought to be crystal clear: God's own testimony of Himself is that He alone is God. All other gods are FALSE GODS; and God is the Judge! He will bring down all who exalt themselves as gods. Not coincidentally, men "as gods" shall fall just as did the Prince of darkness who fathered that same lie in the Garden, i.e. the lie that men can be as God!

Being made in the image of God does not mean that we are Divine. Being made partakers of His Divine Nature, in Christ, -- does not make us gods either!

In the book of John 10:35 and in Psalm 82:6 --even though His word says: I said ye are GODS to whom the word of God came, it also says: "but ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes." We are hidden in Him and by Him, in Him who is God [even in His image], we even become members of His body [by the adoption of His Spirit as sons], even still, we are not Him!

Proverbs 23:1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently him that is before thee; 2And put a knife to thy throat, If thou be a man given to appetite. 3Be not desirous of his dainties; Seeing they are deceitful food. 4Weary not thyself to be rich; Cease from thine own wisdom. 5Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven. 6Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, Neither desire thou his dainties: 7For as he thinketh within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee. 8The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, And lose thy sweet words. The Revised Standard Version, (New York: Oxford University Press, Inc.) 1973, 1977

Proverbs 23: 1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you; 2 and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food. 4 Do not toil to acquire wealth; be wise enough to desist. 5 When your eyes light upon it, it is gone; for suddenly it takes to itself wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. 6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies; 7 for he is like one who is inwardly reckoning. “Eat and drink!” he says to you; but his heart is not with you. 8 You will vomit up the morsels which you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words. 9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words. [Revised Standard Version]

What did I get out of this teaching? Can we hear the wisdom the word of God has for us all today [in this day and age] regarding the things the churches are teaching us? If you do, then surely you will forgive me for the following somewhat caustic analogy based on the 23rd chapter of the Book of Proverbs:

When you sit down to eat "the teachings" of notable men, observed carefully all that is before you and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetites: if you are inclined to be misled by your appetites ... [if you are driven by man's lust for power according to the lust of man's own eye, even the lust of man to be like the Most High God...]

Do not desire the delicacies of notable men, of false teachers, who teach you deceptive vanities and doctrines of men; for it is deceptive food. Do not toil [don't knock yourself out trying to perform pseudo spiritual mind science mental gymnastics] in order to acquire "health and wealth " [Do not be seduced by the prosperity message.] --be wise enough to desist. When your eyes lite upon it, it is gone; for suddenly [such wealth obtained by the wisdom of men, which seemed to us as great gain] -it takes wings and flies!

Do not eat the bread of men who are greedy for gain, for as a man thinks in his heart, so is he [full of greed and self deception]: He wants you to eat and drink but it is not really for your good; and he does so for his own gain.

Surely the people of God will vomit up the morsels [false teachings] from the filthy tables of man and will regret the folly of following after false wisdom; alas, our praise of the men that we idolized is but deceptive waste.

Do I speak in the hearing the fools? If I speak in the hearing of a fool concerning his folly, will he not despise the wisdom of God's word?

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

In Christ,
