Exodus 20:4 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
When I first heard teachings about generational curses, I wondered whether or not Christians should (or should not) believe in them. I questioned whether or not this particular teaching is of God, or of man. Could it be true that many of us (believers) are suffering --and need deliverance from 'generational' curses.
Certainly if the teachings concerning generational curses were true, then there were no doubt many believers who need prayer for deliverance. On the other hand, we know that there are many things that are taught 'using the word of God' that are not necessarily of or by the Spirit of God.
As soon as I began hearing teachings being circulated about Christians being under generational curses, I did the only thing I knew to do --ask the Holy Spirit to give me His counsel concerning this and to discern the teaching for me according to His word.
As soon as I asked, "Father, are these teachings true? Are Christians under generational curses? The Lord answered my question with a question: He said, "When a person is born again --once you accepted Me as your Lord and Savior and were born again of My Spirit, --who is your Father?" Immediately, I replied, "You are, Father."
By His Spirit, the Lord showed me that according to His word: once a person becomes born again, the god of this world is no longer your father, you are no longer of that lineage. Instead, the moment you are born-again, God becomes your father. And then the Lord asked me this: since God is your Father (in Christ) then tell Me, what curse is there in that? I answered, "None, Lord". Then the Lord replied, '--so much for "generational curses".
This example is given to show how easily we can be misled by those who mean well but who use God's word to teach things that are not by and of the Spirit --and which are not in keeping with the Spirit of the Word. Just because something seems right and just because the written word is used to teach it, does not mean that it is right or that it is in keeping with God's word, either in Spirit or in Truth. What God teaches by His Spirit is true both in Spirit and in Truth.
I am not saying that anyone is deliberately teaching what they know is error. And I am not judging the intention of anyone's heart. Regardless of the intent, however, the teaching of so-called "generational curses" applied to born-again children of God does not bring deliverance from anything. Instead it only serves tp put the blood-bought people of God under bondage to religious teachings.
Pray for those who teach such things, but do not allow their erroneous teaching to rob you of the peace, joy and liberty (freedom from such curses) which has been given to you in Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 10:4 "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
